The Township was formally established on February 28, 1860 by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature in accordance with the Jersey Town Act of 1798. Located in central northeastern New Jersey astride the major transportation corridor, the Township is in close distance to New York City and Philadelphia. The major highways are Route 18 and the New Jersey Turnpike and there is easy access to Routes 1, 9, 130 and the Garden State Parkway. This provides an ideal place for business and for residents seeking easy access to the major metropolitan areas or the shore. Housing for the township’s 43,000 residents includes single family, apartments and condos, as well as an older section of historic homes on the National Register. See the East Brunswick History page for more in-depth information on the History of the Township.
